Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt

Gustav Klimt was born on 14th of July in 1862 and he died on February 6th in 1918. He was an Austrian symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Secession movement. Klimt is noted for his paintings, murals, sketches. The primary subject of Gustav Klimt's paintings was a heroine, often a beautiful woman in the nude. In addition to his figurative works, which include allegories and portraits, he painted landscapes. Among the artists of the Vienna Secession, Klimt was the most influenced by Japanese art and its methods. Klimt is mostly known for his 'Golden phase' where he used gold leaf in his paintings. I really like how busy Klimt's work is but, he manages to break up the busy sections by using different colours and there is flowers are the bottom of the painting and gold in the background with rectangles/squares and circles/ovals on the embracing couple. The male in the painting of 'the kiss' is often speculated to be a portrait of Klimt himself. I really want my museum piece to be inspired by Klimt because his gold leaf is captivating.
